For Social Setting’s debut at Art Basel last year, I partnered with artist King Saladeen to create an unforgettable evening that blended art, culture, and connection.
That experience reminded me that collaboration isn’t just about sharing resources. It’s about creating something neither person could have done alone. I knew how to throw an impactful event, but he brought the inspiration of a true artist to the industry tentpole.
And it feels like since that point, I got even more intentional about partnering with other Black creatives across my work—from designs to brand projects ($77K+ in payments to Black creatives since we last counted) —because this isn’t about me. It’s about us.
Food For Thought
Collaboration expands capacity.
This goes for individuals or brands. And that extra capacity not only lightens the load, but it also widens your reach, your visibility, and your impact. In influencer marketing, this can mean co-hosting events, co-creating content, or bringing in partners who strengthen the cultural relevance of a campaign.

As the Nigel Sylvester x Air Jordan 1 Low OG “Better With Time” is scheduled to launch on August 16th, 2025, it’s worth noting the long-time partnership between Nigel and Nike.
This year’s Met Gala, co-chaired by Pharrell Williams, turned “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” into a masterclass in collaboration, with Black designers and creatives shaping the night’s narrative and proving fashion’s power to tell a united story.

Activating at Art Basel is no small feat. The week is packed with competing events, big-name sponsors, and endless distractions vying for the same audience. My first Social Setting dinner there came with the pressure to fill the room and stand out among the noise.
The biggest lesson? Don’t stress over the crowd you don’t get…appreciate the one you do. Every guest who showed up was intentional, engaged, and exactly who needed to be there.
